Life Changes- Immigration

One of the things that defines this city is the fact that so many of its occupants relocated from somewhere across the globe. Another characteristic is that living here tends to be temporary. Everything is fast pace and quick to change. This diversity brings us new tastes, interests and multiculturalism. On the other hand, it can make us struggle to fit in and work harder to adjust to an unfamiliar surroundings. It is normal to feel detached, lonely and homesick under these circumstances. Research of immigrants has shown that people who relocate their lives, tend to the have higher levels of distress.

Studies of migrants show high levels of psychological distress among populations who uprooted their lives to distant countries. The reason for this may be more limited sources of support or have an overload of new challenges current place.
Most feel pressured to belong to a place with a new set of rules and mentality, which are different from the ones we grew up on. This can create confusion in one's sense of self, feelings of detachment, and especially a sense of constant hard work and effort.
It is well known that emotional support is critical to the process of adaptation and is a large part of the ability to become well integrated and make the best of such a life change.
