Trauma Therapy
The definition for trauma, according to approach I work with (EMDR) is: any event that has a long lasting effect on the self, or the psyche. This means that trauma doesn't only pertain to life threatening event or losses, rather than more 'ordinary' situations. For example: getting fired, giving birth, separations, health issues for ourselves or our soundings. All those can be experienced as traumatic and cause a great deal of mental pain.
The range of trauma symptoms is broad, and usually includes symptoms of: intrusion, negative mood, detachment, avoidance, and physiological hyper arousal. Often these disturbing images, come to us involuntarily, while awake or during sleep.
In treatment we relate to these traumatic images or thoughts simply as experience, in this case negative experiences of course. These experiences were so difficult-they did not undergo mental processing . That explains why they still feel so tangible and powerful even after a long time .As a result, we feel stuck in place and unable to move on from what has happened.
The method of therapy I use is gradual, but still shows effective results very quickly .
The EMDR method has been studied around the world and in fact today is the only one of the three methods approved by the Department of Defense for the treatment of psychological trauma.
Check with yourself if events in childhood, in the recent past or present are haunting you, and a lower your quality of life and well-being you want foe yourselves. If so, contact me.
